This page features content
which is supplemental to Too Young To Die, and
was not included in the book for various reasons. Sort of like a deleted scenes
reel on a DVD, "The Rest of the Story" shows you some interesting
stuff that just didn't make the cut.

Edward P.
Rettig
On pages 66 &
67 of TYTD is the history of the 8th Ohio Infantry's Edward P. Rettig.
Edward is one of our country's youth who gave his life during the
Civil War. When publishing TYTD Edward's photograph did not make it
to the final selection of images used, even though I have had it for
years. The original albumen was mounted on an 8x10 preprinted mount
with the words, "Edward P. Rettig (Drummer Boy, 8th Regiment
O. V. )" The Horse Soldier of Gettysburg has in their offerings
a Confederate Sword and knife that Edward brought back to his Medina
home at the time of his 1861 death. And that is the rest of the story.

Band
of the 15th Regulars
On
page 275 of TYTD is the close up image of a young drummer in the
15th U. S. Infantry Band. Presented here is the rest of the albumen
image taken in Chattanooga during the war. It was recently featured
on the cover of Mark Johnson's fine book That Body Of Brave Men:
The U. S. Regular Infantry and the Civil War in the West. The
5x7 photograph is one of my collection favorites. Click pic to enlarge.
